Amazfit, the flagship wearable brand of health technology company Zepp Health, has unveiled its newest GPS smartwatch, the T-Rex Ultra 2, which is built for extreme environments and expedition use.

The watch includes activity and biotracking technology that analyzes heart rate, sleep quality, blood oxygen, breathing rate and stress levels.

The sleep-tracking algorithm analyzes the wearer's sleep quality, breathing patterns and sleep stages.

Users can view their collected data in the Zepp App, which shows trends and charts of health metrics and allows them to compare activity over time.

Aside from health-focused applications on the watch, which is compatible with Apple and Android phones, users can receive and make phone calls and send texts. The watch has GPS, up to 30 days of battery life and a built-in flashlight, and is water-resistant to a depth of 100 meters (328 feet) for up to 10 minutes.

The watch can also remain operational in extreme cold, using Low Temperature Mode that keeps its core functions responsive even when temperatures drop to -22°F or -30°C.

T-Rex Ultra 2 retails for $549.99 and is available for purchase on Feb. 19.

"With the T-Rex Ultra 2, we focused on building a watch for people who rely on navigation, endurance and on-watch decision-making in demanding environments," Scott Shepley, head of global marketing at Amazfit, said in a statement.

"It's designed for long, complex routes where preparation and reliability matter, and it complements the T-Rex 3 Pro within the T-Rex family by serving a more expedition-focused use case."

THE LARGER TREND

In 2024, Zepp Health released its smartwatch operating system, Zepp OS, that runs on OpenAI's ChatGPT-4o model. The integration introduced Zepp Flow, a voice assistant that allows the wearer to control the device via voice commands without specific keywords or physical touch.

That same year, Amazfit announced a partnership with women's wellness platform Wild.AI, which uses physiological and hormonal data to help women "track, train, fuel and recover" based on their cycle and life stage, from menstruation to menopause.

Through the partnership, the Amazfit Active 2 smartwatch included a hormone- and cycle-tracking wellness app, the Wild.AI mini-app. Wearers of the watch could obtain personalized training, diet, readiness scores and performance recommendations tailored to a woman's physiology.

Last year, Amazfit's parent company, Zepp Health, acquired Wild.AI's core assets and technology, including its proprietary technology and selected members of its leadership team.
